About

Hi. My name is Marcel Van Amelsvoort and I’m an associate professor at a training and research institute in Yokohama. I know that a lot of people describe themselves as teacher trainers even when they only do so occasionally. Unfortunately, my case is different. I was happily working at a junior college several years when we got closed down and I found myself attached to a new unit whose mandate is to do provide training sessions for teachers, mostly in the summer. We provide sessions for public high school and junior high school English teachers primarily. We also help elementary school teachers deal with teaching English.

This blog is a thinking tool for me and the opinions here are my own and do not necessarily reflect the stance of my employer. Many of the ideas are  works in progress. If you are still reading this, I’d like to thank you twice: once for visiting the site, and once for actually reading some of the content.
